Spring Jumpstart

April 4, 2016 By Barbara Leave a Comment

Spring is supposed to be here but the actual signs of spring are not coming fast enough for me, so I am posting a few pictures from earlier years to refresh spring’s memory and hopefully jumpstart the process.

Are you ready for spring? What’s your favorite part of the season?

IMG_1696I wish the lilacs would last longer than the first rain, but they always seem to disappear, the delicate petals knocked to the ground . Lilacs are probably the one flower that truly smells like spring to me. Then I know it has officially arrived!

IMG_1434 I love potting new plants and filling the deck with color. My pups always had to have their noses in it too.

The flowering crab apple trees remind me of our fruit farm in Washington when I was a kid. All those trees in a row, puffed up like pink or white clouds. Now I have to be satisfied with three seasonal cloud trees.

Thanks for stopping! Happy Spring!

Feeling like Bambi

May 26, 2015 By Barbara 1 Comment

April rains have finally come now at the end of May. Our yard is a muggy jungle of leafy branches, damp blossoms, and shades of green. Birds flit here and there pulling worms and tending nests. Chirps, tweets, and bird song fill the air.

Spring is vibrating with new life. New growth. New promise.

I enjoy the crisp, bright colors, cooler temps, and falling leaves of autumn, but…

Spring stretches ever upward, reaching lush arms and face to the sky, rejuvenating and exhilarating beneath the ever-increasing warmth of the sun.

You can’t help but love spring. Especially after a long, cold winter in Minnesota.

Sunny Side Up

April 15, 2013 By Barbara Leave a Comment

IMG_0504The tulips have all stayed underground this spring in Minnesota, due to repeat layers of snow and cold. But in spite of a dreary outlook through double-paned windows, I’m sure the sun
will show up eventually – whether or not some little red-headed juvenile delinquent stands in the street and shouts the words, “the sun will come out… tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow…” blah, blah, blah.

As much as government is spending lately, all of our bottom dollars have already been bet. Today we generously dole out our precious, hard-earned dollars to shore up the lavish spending of our dear elected officials. Because if we don’t, they will come after us with the

flowerNail long arm of the law and beat us with a big stick. And of course, we all want to be law-abiding citizens – whether or not Congress does the same. You know what Mom would say, “just because the hoodlums up on capital hill don’t play fair, doesn’t mean you have to cheat.”

So happy electronic tax filing day and may the sun come out for you tomorrow!
